Mark Phillips, MD

Mark Phillips is from Gloucester and was brought up in the Salvation Army, learning to play the cornet at the age of 7.

Mark played cornet and French horn and, aged 14, became a member of both the National Youth Orchestra and National Youth Brass Band. At age 15 Mark became the youngest ever principal horn player of the Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra.

He is a very keen musician; he plays all brass instruments and piano, and is an established conductor. During his Brass Band career, Mark has played with many different bands at all levels, including most notably Bournemouth Concert Band, Sun Life Band and the world famous Desford Band. Mark played Soprano Cornet for the last five years of his career before concentrating on conducting.

Mark has conducted bands from 4th section to Championship section and had successful spells with Yeovil Town Band, Amington Band, Newhall Band and Wellington Telford Band. Mark's priority is to make each of his bands hugely entertaining and a real hit with the public. Since 2014, Mark has been conducting Cubbington Silver Band, leading them to become Midlands 4th Section Champion in 2015. He added the role of MD of Royal Spa Brass in summer 2017.

In his spare time Mark enjoys arranging music, playing with various ensembles and supporting his beloved Bristol City FC

Mark currently has his own company in the Ventilation Industry and is hoping to grow the business with his wife Jan.
