Senior Band Musical Director

Stephen began his brass banding journey at the age of 9 with Penzance Silver Band, progressing from cornet to baritone, and finally to bass trombone, which has remained his principal instrument. As a young player he advanced through the national sections and performed with the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, developing strong ensemble skills under respected conductors such as Brian Grant and Geoff Whitham, and alongside soloists such as Richard Marshall, Brett Baker, and Simone Rebello.

In more recent years, Stephen has played across the Midlands with Leicester Co-Op, Enderby, and Ratby Co-operative, performing from 1st through to championship sections. Alongside music, Stephen also enjoys coaching and development work - experiences that have shaped his supportive, analytical, and people-focused approach to musical leadership.
